TEXTBOOKS OPEN...ARMSTRONG WILL EXPLAIN ...GET BUSY ON THE WORKSHEET...YOU MUST WORK SILENTLY & INDEPENDENTLY FOR THE ENTIRE HOUR TO INCREASE YOUR QUARTER GRADE 3%

FOR THOSE OF YOU NOT HERE...BELOW IS A COPY OF THE ACTIVITY...hard copies are available in the room...you may start on it at home!



“TJ & THE DECK vs. ABE & THE G.A.!”

1776 vs. 1863

Directions: Use the textbook to find the following items.  Fill out the worksheet with plenty of COWBELL! Once you have completed all the questions…glue the Gettysburg Address in your NB…and put it in your “own words” in the space provided…THEN…as a takehome “essay” …re-write (type in bold print) your version on top the THE DECK sheet given to you in class. 

THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE : 1776

1.       Turn to page 32-33… Make a title, and then take notes from the pages…FACTS:  Who, what, when, where, and why…COWBELL

2.       EFFECT:  “Explain how did Enlightenment thinking influence the Declaration of Independence?

3.       Turn to page R4… Read the first two paragraphs of The Deck and locate the 5 IDEALS…copy the phrase where each is located…AND …UNDERLINE AND COLOR each Ideal.

THE CONSTITUTION of THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA: 1787

1.       Turn to page 60…Search and Destroy…locate and provide page numbers for the following:

a.       What page do you find the words “We The People…?”

b.      On page 61 who are “those bound to Service?”

c.       On page 61 who are “all other Persons?”

d.      What page do you find the Bill of Rights?

e.      What page do you find YOUR First Amendment Freedoms?...KNOW THEM!

f.        What page do you find the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments…KNOW WHAT THEY DO?

g.       What does the First Clause of the 14th Amendment really say about citizenship?  Identify the key rights and ideals????

THE GETTYSBURG ADDRESS: 1863

1.       Turn to page 129…What are the facts given about THE BATTLE OF GETTYSBURG? Who, what, when, where, and why…COWBELL!!

2.       Turn to page R81…THE GETTYSBURG ADDRESS…answer the follow LAPS  Protocol questions?

a.      LOOK (Sourcing)

1.       Why is Lincoln giving this speech?

2.       When was it written?

b.      ANALYZE (Contextualization)

1.       What else is going on at the time Lincoln gives this speech?

2.       What would it be like to be there and hear him speak?

c.       PROVE IT (Close Reading)

1.       What claim(s) does Lincoln make as to why this nation was founded?

2.       What is he referring to specifically when he says “Four Score and 7 Years ago..?”

3.       What claim(s) does Lincoln make as to why they were at this battlefield?

d.      SO WHAT? (Corroborations)

1.       What conclusion does Lincoln make?  Explain how this relates to our 5 Ideals



INTERACTIVE NB ENTRY:



A.        Now that you are “done”…take the Gettysburg Address and glue it in your NB…start putting it in your own words… keep it simple…and about the same length…BGTD! This will be the last entry in your NB!!! Due Tuesday, Oct. 13.

B.        Take piece of paper in class that has a “shadow image” of THE DECK…and type and glue your version of The Gettysburg Address on The Deck!!! This is symbolic! Turned in with this worksheet the day of the QUIZZAM…30 Points
